ELBOW CAY  (HOPE TOWN)

    Hope Town, or Hollywood as the locals refer to it, is home to one of only three hand-wound, kerosene-burning lighthouses in the world. It is an impressive landmark and famous worldwide. Hope Town’s Real Estate Market is almost equally impressive.

    Hope Town lies four miles to the east of Marsh Harbour and is 7 miles long and roughly half a mile wide at the widest point. The North End of the island is known as North End Subdivision. It is a very quiet area of the island and offers very private homes and lots on the ocean and bay as well as wooded interior lots. There is a beautiful ocean beach, protected bay beach, and a community dock for the subdivision. The settlement and picturesque, protected Harbour is just south and offers great restaurants, stores, and beautiful old Bahamian homes. The settlement is often described as a pastel coloured New England style fishing village. The center and southern tip of the island is mostly residential with White Sound being home to The Abaco Inn and Sea Spray Resort and Marina. The southern tip of the island is Doris Cove, a planned residential community with more than sixty lots. All lots have access to a Tahiti Beach and a community dock. 

    Hope Town is a very popular destination in Abaco for second home owners and many of the homes are in a rental program for weekly vacations and can generate on an average over 25 weeks a year in excess of $2500 per week. There are several management companies on the island that manage the booking, check in and cleaning of the rental homes. The Hope Town real estate market has always been thought of as high end real estate, but there are affordable home sites available.

    A large barrier reef on the ocean side of Elbow Cay protects the beautiful beaches and offers great diving, fishing and protected swimming.
